With fall in full swing, getting from point A to point B comes with a bit more risks. With that, consider the following smart safety tips when heading out on the roads this autumn season. Even more importantly, however, is ensuring you are equipped with a customized Wright City Auto Insurance policy.

Don’t brake on leaves.

Avoid hard braking on leaves as wet ones can be as slippery as ice. Be cautious when driving through thick piles of leaves and watch out for obstructed lane signs that could be hidden.

Be rain smart.

During fall, many cities see increased rainfall. When it’s raining, be sure to maintain a safe distance from the car in front of you, as the wet roads may be more slippery than usual and you may be at higher risk of hydroplaning. Use your low beams or fog lights (never high beams) in fog conditions, says the Minnesota Safety Council.

Be mindful of ice.

Morning frost can leave bridges icy and slippery, so be sure to slow down on overpasses and when driving over shaded areas that could be thick with ice.

Adjust your eyes.

As we lose one to two minutes of sunlight daily after the Autumn Equinox, it’s important to take the time to allow your eyes to adjust after stepping out of your home or office.

Watch for deer.

Autumn is deer breeding season, which means they are more abundant around roads. Therefore, be careful of any animals that might dart across the road in front of you. Especially during sunrise and sunset, be extra cautious of deer activity.
